WHAT IS ALL-ENCOMPASSING YOGA?

We all know a version of what we believe yoga is. Most people think of sequence of poses to keep us stretchy. But yoga is so much more and can be thought of as an umbrella term. We can nerd out on the history later but I'm here to teach you all the aspects of yoga. The importance of breath, meditation, mindfulness and beyond. As a personalized teacher/guide/coach, I can give you any and all the information about yoga that can help you improve your own life and become the best version of yourself.

WHAT IS ALL-INCLUSIVE YOGA?

My goal is to make the power of yoga (all-encompassing) accessible to everyone, whether you have previous yoga experience or not. I believe everyone can benefit from bringing in some aspect of yoga into their lives. Whether it be through mindful breathing practices, to relieving body pains, allowing yourself the space to reconnect with your body, to opening up to higher energetic fields through healing touch, everyone one deserves the opportunity to learn how to help themselves in this crazy world. I have something in my tool box just for you!

HOW PERSONALIZED?

Everyone is so different! This is why I require an initial DISCOVERY SESSION (free of charge!) before working with someone. I don't want to give you something your don't need and I want you to feel comfortable with me as your teacher/guide/coach. Newcomers needs are much different from someone who goes to a studio weekly.

WHAT IS A YOGIC COACH?

I personally don't consider myself a teacher. A guide sounds a little too mystical for some people. I have knowledge and tools that I want to share with you. I have the enthusiasm and confidence in you, like a coach, and with all of these I know together we can improve your life with as little or big of steps that you are ready to take in bringing in a new self of control over your life.

WHAT IS A DISCOVERY SESSION?

A Discovery Session is a completely FREE 30 min meet-up(via Zoom unless you are located in the greater Tacoma area). Here we will discuss what services you'd like and what teaching options I can provide. We will discuss payment options, travel fees(valid for at-home sessions that are 20 miles + away) and presents a wonderful opportunity for you to ask me any questions.

WHAT IS THE ACCOUNTABILITY BUDDY SYSTEM?

My Accountability Buddy System that is in place to help everyone who wants to remain consistent with their practice stay accountable by keeping us in touch through the application known as Slack. Here we can build groups of people on a similar journey or remain in contact one on one so that I can help keep you motivated in your progress to a healthier lifestyle. 

WHAT IS CONSCIOUS CUDDLING?

Simple touch is a form of therapy, it releases oxytocin. So many people are deprived of kind and conscious touch.  My services are strictly platonic and confidential, we cuddle, talk, have an experience together in your chosen location. I want to be a soothing presence for you.

WHAT IS REIKI?

Reiki is a healing touch technique, based out of Japan. I place my hands on or hover over areas of the body to send an increase of energy to that area of the body. This not only promotes healing but helps reduce stress, promotes relaxation and can possibly help with emotional releases. I can imagine that this sounds pretty out there and if you're new to the world of yoga and energy healing I understand why you may dismiss this service but I have a money-back guarantee if you don't feel any effects. Even if you're not interested in doing yoga/yogic practices this is a great experience that just may make you into a believer!

WHY DON'T YOU HAVE ANY PRICES LISTED?

Great question! I aim to make every session as personalized as possible. I don't want to charge you for something you don't need or want. I also want to give you as many options as possible such as where you would like to have your session? I teach remotely, at your own home, at a studio in Lakewood or at a local park? I find making hybrid sessions will create the best experience for you! I'm not trying to fit you into a box so my offerings do not fit into boxes. I require a FREE 30 minute Discovery Session (via Zoom, unless in the greater Tacoma area) before I charge you anything so we both can feel confident that I am the best teacher/guide/coach for you.

WHAT IS YOGA?

I could go into the entire history of Yoga starting back to BCE ~2,000 with the Vedas , the oldest being the Rig Veda. These teachings were passed down orally to only the chosen few of the highest rankings in ancient India. But Yoga roughly translate into 'to join together' or 'to yoke together' from Sanskrit. It's to join together the body, mind, and spirit. To join our consciousness together with the consciousness of the Universe. I believe on elf the most user-friendly context to get a better sense of what Yoga is by looking at the 8 Limbs of Yoga in the Yoga Sutras by Patanjali. If you're curious to learn more about this please let me know and we can bring it up in our practices together!

WHAT IS HOT YOGA?

Hot Yoga is the performance of yoga postures (Asana) and breath work (Pranayama) in a warm to hot room with high humidity. This is said to help the body prepare for movement by warming up the muscles. It is also said to help rid the body of impurities through sweating. This form of exercise Yoga was made famous by Bikrim Choudhury. Not too many studios call it Bikrim anymore due to Bikrim's many sexual assault and harassment allegations. 

WHAT IS YIN YOGA?

Yin Yoga is the performance of yoga postures (Asana) and breath work (Pranayama) done at a slow pace, where connective tissues (tendons, ligaments, and fascia) are the focus of stretching instead of the muscles. This form combines the use of Chinese traditional medicine and meridian points into the poses. Poses can be held for 1 to 5 and up minutes and is great for gaining flexibility. 

WHAT IS MFR YOGA?

MFR stands for Myofascial Release. First of all FASCIA is the fibrous connective tissue that covers the internal areas of the body in a web-like, elasto-collagenous complex. Think of it as the biological fabric of our physical body, its job is to transport metabolic material throughout the body. Non-movement, repetitive movement, and physical trauma can cause the fascia to thicken and become less elastic. This can be combated with manual therapy such as MFR massages and Rolfing. Unwinding with spontaneous and non-repetitive movements, as well as rebounding by applying lite pressure such as bouncing and shaking can help. With MFR Yoga, you will be in a relaxing yoga pose, most likely supported with props, and I will administrate light, constant pressure to problem areas such as the hips, lower spine or pull on the arms to work on the shoulders. 

WHAT IS VINYASANA YOGA?

Vinyasana Yogas description can vary from person to person. How I see Vinyasana Yoga is a quicker paced performance of yoga asana (poses) that flow with the breath, so you change from one pose to the next with every inhalation and exhalation. I also associate the Chaturanga Dandasana flow with Vinyasana Yoga, this is not a beginner set of asana and I do not usually teach it due to the high risk of injury. Sun salutations are also a set of asana commonly found in Vinyasana Yoga which are great for beginners. 

WHAT IS HATHA YOGA?

Again, Hatha Yoga can be described many ways but here's my take on it. Hatha is the performance of yoga asana (poses) that you hold for a few breaths, then you change poses with an inhalation and exhalation like Vinyasana.

WHAT IS ELEMENTAL YOGA?

Elemental Yoga was taught to me by my teacher at Uplift! Yoga, Brett Larkin. In this performance of yoga asana (poses) you bring in the aspects of the 4 Elements. For Earth we incorporate grounding poses and techniques, mainly in the legs. Water is when we bring movement and flow into the poses, either free-form, repetitive, or both. With Fire we really focus on core work. And finally with Air we bring awareness to the breath. You can find all these elements in any Yoga sequence but to really bring in the connection between the 4 Elements is what makes it Elemental. 

WHAT IS CHAKRA YOGA?

Maybe you have no idea what a Chakra even is. To put it in the most condensed form, a Chakra is a hub of energy within the body. Depending on the lineage you look into, the amount of Chakras vary. I focus on the standard 7 that are located along the spine and skull, they correspond with major organs, nerve ganglia, glands, and are associated with with segments of the physical body. This is where Chakra Yoga comes in. We stretch, move, ultimately bring awareness to these areas of the body. We can also bring in the other concepts that are linked into the Chakra system besides those of the physical.

WHAT IS THERAPEUTIC YOGA?

This is probably one of the most sought out types of yoga. We dive into target areas where you are having chronic or acute pain. These practices are different than your typical yoga as they are not in a sequence that looks pleasing but are more structured in a way of other types of physical training/therapy, utilizing movements and postures not found in traditional yoga.
